2017 - Ride Around Texas Insanity, "Tropical Adventure"

The RAT Insanity "Tropical Adventure" will start and finish in South Padre Island, May 1 - 4, 2017.  Riders from around the country can enjoy a tropical on each end of an exciting, exclusive and challenging IBA certified ride.  See an example of a clockwise running of the RAT Insanity Gold

Mandatory Checkpoints and verification requirements
IBA start/finish witness is required.  Make a date/time log entry at each mandatory checkpoint and secure either the required dated business receipt (DBR) or photo with your motorcycle (MC) in the picture. All DBRs must be computer generated business receipts showing the date, time, city and state (IBA standard).  The long standing rules and protocols for the ride are on the official IBA and Motorcycle Tourer's Forum RAT Insanity sites and apply to this event, (see modifications below.)

Note: Photos may be emailed during the ride to the RAT Master to facilitate the certification process.  Or, presented at certification after arriving back to SPI.

Registration Closed March 30 - Sign up for the RAT Insanity on Ride Master.  The cost of the RAT Insanity is $60 IBA certification fee paid to the IBA via PayPal upon registration.   Express IBA certification is extended to all RAT finishers.  RAT swag available from the IBA eStore as long as inventory lasts.

Prerequisites - RAT Insanity:  IBA Membership.  RAT Insanity Gold:  Bun Burner Gold, or IBA certified ride greater than 2,000 miles, or qualifying rally.

Satellite Tracking & Group Page - Rider real-time GPS SpotWalla links that show track and spot markers expedites certification and adds to the fun.  At the rider's request, their SpotWalla link will be posed on the Hard Riding Adventures RAT site for all to follow.  Register links with RAT Master prior to start of the ride.  A SpotWalla location page has been established for registered riders.  Sign up details emailed to registered riders only.

Host Hotel - The La Copa Inn & Resort is the host hotel for the 2017 RAT Insanity, "Tropical Adventure."  Conveniently located at the end of the Queen Isabella Causeway, the La Copa Inn sports a bar, restaurant, Starbucks's, pool and boarded walk way to the beach.  It is also right around the corner from the 27/7 Stripes Convenience store and service station, convenient start/finish DBR locaiton.

Group Rate for Double Queen is $80, Sunday April 30, Wednesday May 3 and Thursday May 4.  Normal market rates before Sunday and after Thursday.  Double up with a comrade and save! Continental breakfast for RAT riders from 5am -6am Monday, May 1.  Full hot breakfast all other days of your stay.

Monday, May 1
5:00 - 5:50 am, Continental, 4th floor dining room
5:00 - 6:00 am, RAT start window.  All riders departed by 6:00am

Thursday, May 4
7:00 am - 7:00 pm, Rider check in and certification
5:00 pm - whenever, Pizza party in the bar

IBA Witness & Log Forms:  Pre printed for your convenience.  One page IBA witness form. The RAT Master will be available to witness at start and finish.  Select Clockwise or Anti-Clockwise route log sheet.  Documents available to registered rider.

Route GPX Files:  Download - Clockwise and/or Anti-Clockwise.  These GPX files contain suggested DBR locations.  You may pick any DBR site at a mandatory checkpoint as long as it contains the required date, time, city, state information.  Also, you may pick any route as along as the mandatory checkpoints are done in order.

RAT Start/Finish:  All riders will start between 5:00 and 6:00 am, Monday May 1.  RAT Insanity Gold riders must complete the RAT within 70 hours from their start DBR date/time.  RAT Insanity riders must complete the RAT within 85 hours from their start DBR date/time.
  • RAT Insanity Gold return window:  70 hours after start DBR, 3:00 - 4:00 am, Thursday, May 4, 2017
  • RAT Insanity return window:  85 hours after start DBR, 6:00 - 7:00 pm, Thursday, May 4, 2017
The RAT Master is Tim Masterson.  Supplemental instructions and contact information will be emailed to RAT Riders upon registration.
